Last O Music Awards, we celebrated the proceedings by enlisting Chiddy of Chiddy Bang to break the Guinness World record for Longest Freestyle Rap. This time, we’re bringing fans as well as a cadre of strong-hearted dancers together to break a new record, while also supporting a worthy cause.
As you know, the awards will take place on Halloween, but up until now we’ve been mum on where they would be going down. Well, the black cat is out of the bag: We’ll be invading Los Angeles on Sunday, October 30, at which point we will kick off a massive dance extravaganza in order to break the Guinness World Record for Longest Team Dance Marathon — at The Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip.
The whole deal be livestreamed right here on OMusicAwards.com, and will wrap up after 24 hours when we nab the record (hopefully). The show itself will begin shortly after — 11:30pm ET/ 8:30pm PT on OMusicAwards.com — at another location in the City of Angels.
Pretty cool, right? Well, it gets better. Our troupe of brave dancers won’t be tangoing and twisting in vain: We plan to use this World Record attempt to raise awareness for LGBT youth issues (bullying in particular) by allowing fans to donate money during the stream.
Funds will be split between GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network), It Gets Better Project, The Gay Straight Alliance Network (GSA), Human Rights Campaign (HRC), The Trevor Project and GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). Fans will also be able to tap into social media to support the cause and root for their favorite dancers.
We’re strapping on our dancing shoes in preparation, so start exercising those typing fingers — we’re going to need your support to get through those last sweat-stained hours.
