Casual gaming just got a little more thrilling with the addition of Michael Jackson-themed goods and content to the social game CityVille.
For those unfamiliar, CityVille is an extremely popular social game from Zynga for social platforms like Facebook and Google+ in which players develop a city. In the past, Enrique Iglesias has also made an appearance in CityVille, and other Zynga properties have hosted the likes of Lady Gaga and Dr. Dre.
Jackson’s residency in the game will function thusly: The game has teamed up with The Immortal World Tour by Cirque du Soleil (a tour dedicated to the work of Michael Jackson) from now until November 25 to bring the late musician into the CityVille world.
Players will be able to team up with a chimp reminiscent of Jackson’s pet Bubbles to earn points and goods like hot air balloons, gloves, and concert posters, and to unlock content like dancing avatars executing moves from the The Immortal World Tour. The end goal is to build a stage like the one featured in the tour, which will unlock a video from the event itself.
Facebook apps and social games are becoming common testing ground for musicians and acts looking to gain attention from a wider audience (see LMFAO’s app). What do you think of The Immortal World Tour’s effort?
