Oh man, we definitely have a contender for the next O Music Awards “Best Fan Cover” — although this act definitely has an unfair advantage. O Music Awards-nominated band (for the “Digital Genius” award) The Flaming Lips recently covered The Beatles’ “I Am The Walrus,” and all we have to say is: “I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.” Translation: Whoaaa.
The Lips plan to play a few New Year’s Eve shows in Oklahoma City (where the band resides) with Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band, and it seems that the band got pumped up for the gigs by covering the Beatles classic at Oklahoma City’s Pink Floor Studio.
The above vid gave the crew over at the O Music Awards a nice kick of nostalgia, as The Flaming Lips performed a cover of “Revolution” in honor of Steve Jobs at the last awards show, a performance that was presented by Ono herself. Also, if we’re not mistaken, Steven Drozd is sporting the space blanket that Wayne Coyne was swaddled in during our Jobs tribute. Aww, sharing.
