Online streaming radio service Pandora recently launched a live concert series called Pandora Presents in Portland, Oregon, with local favorite Dawes. Now, the series is gearing up for its second edition: a performance by O Music Awards-nominated band Portugal. The Man at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom.
Pandora Presents launched in early December in Portland with Dawes, a band that Pandora — using its vast store of listener data — determined was popular in the oft-lampooned city (Portlandia, anyone?).
Fans of the band — those who created a Dawes station on Pandora, etc — were invited to the free show, and the whole thing was documented on a new online video hub.
The second edition of the series will kick off tonight at the Bowery Ballroom with Portugal. The Man, who was chosen for the event based on the musical preferences of local listeners (stations created, songs liked, etc). As with Dawes, local fans have also been invited to the gig, which is free to all attendees. Footage of the proceedings will be posted on the video hub after the show.
We’re pretty pleased with the lineup of this event, as it brings together two O Music Awards alumni: Pandora won the O Music Award for Best Music Discovery Service during our first show, and Portugal. The Man was nominated for Best Artist With A Cameraphone during the last round (they lost out to Demi Lovato).
I’ll be at the show tonight, taking snaps and learning about the event series from the folks at Pandora. You can follow me live via my Instagram account, @BrennaEhrlich. (Please excuse the myriad pictures of dogs and shoes. I enjoy dogs and shoes).
