The Hype Machine Takes The Pulse of 2011 With Playable Music Map

Posted January 3

Let’s face it: End-of-year lists can be a little, well, boring (with the exception of ours, of course). Enter the Hype Machine’s Music Blog Zeitgeist, a playable illustrated map showing the most blogged-about artists of 2011.

The music blog aggregator teamed up with online comic The Perry Bible Fellowship to create a multi-part map featuring the most popular artists this year, based on data from the music blogs that the Hype Machine monitors.

Bands 50-41 have been revealed — including breakout act SBTRKT, old favorites like The National and The Rapture, and newer acts like Active Child — with the rest slated to roll out this week. The map — which you can buy as a poster — is also interactive: Just click on an artist to hear one of their jams.

Check it out and let us know what you think of the results of this rather artistic study.
