We’re pulling out our summer clothes and training up our livers over here at MTV HQ, as in mere days, we’re taking off for Texas! Last month, the O Music Awards held the first ever edition of its new Unboxed Event series, and this SXSW we’re giving all y’all who couldn’t make it to New York a second chance to celebrate.
O Music Awards Unboxed is a New York-based event series that pulls together all aspects of the O Music Awards into one wild night: technology, music, audience interaction and our own special brand of WTF?! weirdness.
The O Music Awards — for those not in the know — is MTV’s brand new awards show dedicated to honoring achievements in music and technology. We’ve hosted two shows in the past year — with the third looming on the horizon. “Why dole out awards so often?” you may wonder. Well, because technology never slows down, and in accordance with that scene’s chimera-esque nature, neither do we. Our new Unboxed events series is just another way of keeping the celebration going year-round.
Our first event took place at The Studio at Webster Hall in New York City, and featured performances by MNDR and Miracles of Modern Science, as well as a preview of image/video-sharing app Cameo, an awesome installation called The Rainbow Machine, and a music video shoot for MNDR.
Well, this month, we’re taking some of the elements of our first event — namely Miracles of Modern Science — and teaming up with our friends BangOn NYC to throw another Unboxed event — this time in the sultry climes of Texas.
