Welcome to another edition of WTF Wednesday, in which bands tell us WTF they’re looking at online. This week, we have a little vid from indie-pop band Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., who made a very successful go at (humorously) creeping us out.
Amidst an epic battle with a bird intent on stealing their lunches (not pictured in this video, sadly), the band lounged on a deck in Austin, Texas, during SXSW and shared with us their many-storied browser history — most of which included DMX lyrics websites.
“DMX holds a spot near and dear to my heart because of the way that he aggressively delivers his lyrics,” Joshua Epstein told us. “But if you whisper them, they get really sleazy.” Check out the video below for a taste of said sleaziness. (Also not included: Epstein’s tangential monologue about why menstruation is OK.)
Not all of the band’s covers are sleazy, however. They just released a video for their version of Gil Scott-Heron’s “We Almost Lost Detroit” off of their album It’s a Corporate World that’s a pretty stirring tribute to their hometown.
