UPDATE: The blog is now back
Tablet-wielders everywhere, rejoice: You can now jam to Spotify while reading your favorite book on the Kindle app without being forced to pull out your iPhone like some gadget-laden geek. Yup, Spotify for iPad has officially landed, and everyone is so stoked that they’ve apparently overloaded the Spotify blog, which has officially crashed.
We thought the app would finally come to fruition the other week when Spotify held a press conference in New York City — instead, the music subscription service revealed a partnership with Coca-Cola. Today, however, the app’s out of the bag — courtesy of a simple blog post (the blog is currently down) and video. How sneaky, Spotify — especially when you sent out copious press releases heralding the fact that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are now on Spotify.
Naturally, this is the one day our intrepid reporters (read: me) chose to leave the office iPad at home, so we can’t provide a detailed review (yet). However, we can tell you this about the new offering’s features, via Spotify community manager Andres Sehrw:
1). Retina graphics for iPad – dazzling display, razor sharp images, richer colours
2). Even easier to browse and explore Spotify’s entire 18 million* song catalogue
3). New ‘Now Playing’ full-screen view with high-definition cover art
4). Search for playlists, users and music – all from the same view
5). Check out what’s hot and find trending playlists & songs amongst your friends
6). Inbox grouped by user for easy searching
7). Gapless playback and crossfade
8). AirPlay integration
We garnered the following from a webcast this morning:
1). There is currently no Android version
2). Spotify’s native apps do not appear within the iPad app (they aren’t featured in any mobile version)
