Is there life on Mars? If so, those entities are about to get an official introduction to Earth’s musical taste, courtesy of will.i.am. Yup, the probability of Mars Attacks! becoming a reality lies in the hands of a man partially responsible for the lyrics, “Let’s get retarded in hah. Let’s get retarded in here.”

Tuesday, NASA plans to hold an event to share findings about Mars with students in the wake of the rover Curiosity’s recent landing on the Red Planet. The event — which will take place at 4 p.m. EST in NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California — will also include the premiere of a new song from The Black Eyed Peas member, which will be broadcast from the surface on Mars via Curiosity.

The tune is called “Reach for the Stars,” and, according to NASA, is “a new composition about the singer’s passion for science, technology and space exploration.” will.i.am will also be unveiling a new learning initiative tied to the exploration of Mars via his i.am.angel Foundation in collaboration with Discovery Education of Silver Spring, Maryland, a provider of digital resources to kindergarten through grade 12 classrooms. You can watch the whole thing go down on NASA’s website.

There are tons of tunes out there about space exploration and Mars, so tell of will.i.am’s interplanetary unveiling got us thinking: Which jam would we like to rep us among the aliens, given our druthers? We created a Spotify playlist of Mars-themed tunes (and bands) that could do the trick. Let us know your picks in the comments below.
