Last week, Spotify took a page from Rdio’s book, introducing a beefed-up social look for the subscription service, including the ability to follow influencers and musicians. At the same time, it also unveiled a new notifications feature, alerting people when bands they follow have new tunes. Now, it seems, Rdio has stepped up to the plate to match Spotify tit for tat, with the introduction of “New Release Notifications.”
Rdio recently updated its mobile apps, polishing its already sleek UI to a new shine. A lot of the update was cosmetic, with a smattering of tweaks when it came to functionality (infinite scroll and the ability to pick up where you left off listening across devices). Now, the music subscription app is adding a nifty feature to its tool kit: Notifications that let you know when your favorite bands release new tunes.
Sadly, according to a post, notifications will be released through the Web and desktop apps — as well as email — but, not, it seems, via mobile. We hope that functionality will be unleashed soon as well.
