Today, we’re launching a brand-new series here on the O Music Blog: “Unboxed,” a video version of our New York-based event series in which bands review the newest hardware, software and music-related gadgets on the scene. This week, we hit up DJ Spinna, who took the Minimoog Voyager Electric Blue Edition for a spin in honor of the synth’s 10th anniversary.
Moog — the legendary synth manufacturer — recently heralded 10 years of Minimoog Voyagers with the release of a limited edition 24-karet gold-dipped model, as well as an interactive timeline detailing the history of the product (for us poors). We desperately wanted to get our hands on the gold for reviews, but since there were only 31 made, they understandably did not want us smudging up the merchandise and sent over the Electric Blue Edition instead.
To gauge the awesomeness of the product, we enlisted Moog record collector and hip-hop producer DJ Spinna to take it for a test drive. Check out his evaluation below and then head on over to MTV Hive to see a list of his favorite Moog recordings.
