Every year, Bonnaroo goes proverbial balls to the proverbial walls with its lineup announcement, utilizing the Web in captivating ways and drawing out the anticipation with upmost skill. Today’s announcement — hosted by “Weird Al” Yankovic — should be no different, as fans will have the opportunity to drop same band names into the ether.
At noon EST today, Bonnaroo kicks off B.L.A.M (Bonnaroo Live Lineup Announcement Megathon) live on YouTube (see embed below) with an hour of concert footage. After that, Weird Al will take to the Web to start rolling out the lineup, taking calls from fans via phone and Google+ Hangout and allowing them to break some band news as well. The number to dial is: 646-918-8070.
These revelations will be followed by a performance from Portugal. The Man (who we’re willing to bet is playing Bonnaroo as well, as they are already playing all of the festivals this year) and a “surprise classic Bonnaroo concert” at 2pm EST.
Most festivals are pretty lowkey about announcing their lineups, posting graphics to Instagram and Facebook or stories to blogs. Bonnaroo, however, has a history of highly theatrical reveals: in 2010, the fest took to MySpace to announce bands via a creepy, animated cuckoo clock and in 2011, it teamed up with VEVO and Conan O’Brian.
Which bands do you hope will play the fest this year?
