The Flaming Lips Get Romantic With Anatomically Correct, Tune-Packed Chocolate Hearts

Posted February 5

Your daily dose of weird today comes from — no surprises here — Wayne Coyne and The Flaming Lips, who are out with the perfect Valentine’s gift for your sweetheart (literally): an anatomically correct chocolate ticker with a USB of love songs nestled in its core.

The hearts were created by Dude, Sweet Chocolate in Dallas, Texas, and consist “of 72% South American dark chocolate studded with hazelnut mini whoppers and waffle cone crunch.” Each one comes in a box signed by Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips and a USB jam-packed with the following tunes:

0. VALENTINES THEME 2013 GREETING
1. LOVE IS MIND CONTROL (FEAT. STARDEATH AND WHITE DWARFS)
2. BE MY HEAD
3. CAN’T EXIST
4. HIT ME LIKE YOU DID THE FIRST TIME
5. LET ME BE IT
6. MOTH IN THE INCUBATOR
7. SUNSHIP BALLOONS
8. THANKS TO YOU
9. SPIDERBITE SONG
10. WHEN YOU SMILE
11. WITH YOU
12. POMEII AM GOTTERDAMMERUNG
13. WHAT IS THE LIGHT?
14. JUST ABOVE LOVE
15. ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE (FEAT. ALEX AND JADE OF EDWARD SHARPE AND THE MAGNETIC ZEROS)

This isn’t the first Valentine’s-themed fare that Coyne and Co. have come out with. Back in 2011, the band released a new song via 12 YouTube videos titled “Two Blobs F**king” on the holiday — a modern take on the album Zaireeka (set to be re-released soon), which came in the form of four CDs meant to be played simultaneously. They’ve also dabbled in edible/unconventional album containers in the past — releasing tunes via USBs embedded in gummi body parts and even, most curiously, human skulls.

Sadly, the Lips’ latest offering appears to be sold out, so to those who managed to nab some ventricles, we say: “Enjoy.” To everyone else: “Eat your heart out.” (Hopefully not literally.)
