The O Music Awards may have thrown a 24-hour online music festival/drumathon last week, but we also did one other vital thing: We gave out awards, of course! And from Must-Follow Artist on Twitter to Next Big Scene, our winners were some of the most eclectic in the biz. Check out all of the winner announcements from the show below!
During this year’s O Music Awards, we merged music, tech and fans together in the form of a 24-hour online music festival — a fest that was powered by a 24-hour drumathon led by Andrew W.K. in which a multitude of drummers tried their hand at the legendary Bo Diddley beat, the backbone of rock ‘n’ roll. In a nod to Diddley, our five Make A Band Famous nominees also busted out cover jams that were built on that iconic rhythm — and we’ve got a selection of those covers below.
Although it’s been almost a week since Andrew W.K. crushed the record for the longest drum session in a retail store at our 24-hour O Music Awards show, we’re still reeling from all the glorious memories we’ve made. The drumathon was replete with amazing, shining moments — from collaborations between top-notch musicians to surprise visits from prestigious Internet cats. Check out some of our favorites below.
While Andrew W.K. and his new drumming record — longest drum session in a retail store in New York — admittedly stole the O Music Awards show, one of our award winners threatened to eclipse even W.K.’s ample star power: Lil Bub, winner of the illustrious Our Favorite Musical Cat award. Suffice it to say, when Bub dropped by the drumathon to offer W.K. some mews of support, the Internet damn near exploded.
